A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE A UNIQUE COLLECTION OF EXCLUSIVELY SOUTH AFRICAN SCULPTURE

Gallery 181 has been deeply involved in collecting work by some of the most noteworthy South African and Venda artists – predominantly sculptors. We are planning to relocate and unfortunately cannot accommodate this extensive collection at our new premises. We therefore offer suitable buyers an opportunity to acquire these sought after works of art. Institutions, private collectors and other galleries are invited to view the collection – strictly by appointment only. The works are being offered as individual major artworks and in groupings/categories.

There are +/- 24 categories. Each category/grouping comprises between 5 and 20 pieces per artist and include; Jackson Hlungwani’s ceremonial sticks, ceramics by Noria Mabasa, artifacts, antique drums, new drums, Venda pots, Zulu pots, ceremonial axes and spears as well as collections of sangoma artifacts, antique beadwork, walking sticks, crucifixes, chairs, solid wood garden benches, majestic seasoned natural wood pieces and wooden and metal sculpture. There are indoor as well as outdoor artworks. The total collection amounts to more than 600 artworks.

The collection is regarded as a very important and representative collection of contemporary African/South African sculpture. The collection also includes ancient artifacts. Full provenance is available.
