 AFRICAN
ART & CRAFTS GALLERY | |
| Mukondeni African Art
Gallery is located in a serene and beautiful setting, of landscaped gardens and
indigenous trees on a large holding at Kya Sands. |
| Here you will find a
collection of artwork from some of the most well-known and prolific artists from
the Northern Province region that is unique, exclusively South African, thought-provoking
and inspiring. |
| Meandering
through tranquil grounds, the visitor will find various galleries, carrying a
range of wooden and clay sculptures, an enormous collection of old and new Shangaan,
Pedi and Venda drums, beadwork, artefacts like cowhide headrests, leg rattles
and other instruments. |
| There are wooden carved
bowls with intricate detail, spoons of every shape and size and chairs and stools
of diverse description. |
| There are clay pots
made by Lillian Munyai who spent many months here working on them - some of which
are nearly 2 meters high - and were fired in the traditional method with wood
and grass on the property. |
