Biography
David Murathi was born in 1967, at Tshakhuma village (Venda), Northern Province. He studied at Luvhalani School from Grade 0 to Grade 12, and at the age of 18, started working as an artist. David was greatly influenced by his uncle, Mr. Churchill Madzivhandila.
Once he had established himself as an artist, David sold his sculptures at Ditike Arts and Crafts Centre in Venda, and in 1987, he exhibited his works at the Venda Sun Exhibition. He further exhibited works at the Mphephu Resort Exhibition in 1998, the SA Ambassador to the Venda Republic and University of Venda Exhibition in 1992, and in 1997, exhibited at the Pietersburg Show Grounds Exhibition. His latest works were exhibited at the Rand Easter Show in 2000.
David has entered competitions such as the Great North Arts & Crafts competition in 1993 and the Bertam V.O. Art competition. In 1995, he attended the Venetia Sasol Mining Workshop, representing the Mubvumela Sculpture entitled “Journey of the Witches”.
